SEASONAL WORSHIP SERVICES
Christ Lutheran Church offers special worship services during certain liturgical seasons of the year.
During Lent and Holy Week, we offer the following:
Ash Wednesday Services are at 12:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Both services are identical with Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes. We gather with a spirit of solemnity as we confess our sins and receive the mark of the cross in ashes, remembering our mortality and admitting our reliance upon God as we prepare for our Lenten journey. The noon service is followed by lunch in Fellowship Hall.
Mid-Week Lenten Worship takes place on Wednesdays at 12:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. throughout the season of Lent. At the noon service, we gather for a Service of Word and Prayer followed by lunch in Fellowship Hall. At the 6:30 p.m. service, we gather for Vespers.
Palm Sunday Worship takes place at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. We celebrate Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem even as it points hauntingly to his ultimate betrayal, trial, crucifixion and death. Palm processional and Holy Communion at both services.
Maundy Thursday Service takes place at 7:00 p.m. This service which includes Holy Communion and footwashing leads us to reflect on Jesus' Last Supper with his disciples and his great commandment that we love one another.
Good Friday Service takes place at 7:00 p.m. Join us for a candlelight Tenebrae service of scripture readings from Christ's passion. You will enter humbly, worship fully, and leave quietly with your heart centered on the suffering of Christ for you and your salvation. You will observe a diminishing of light through the serice in the pattern of Tenebrae worship. Tenebrae means shadows, and so we experience the shadows that Christ endured. There will be choral and bell selections along with congregational response. We give thanks to the Bell Choirs, Sanctuary Choir, Dr. Daniel Long (our Music Director), and Peter Gross (our Organist) for all their incredible work to make this mournful service so heart-wrenching yet beautiful.
Easter Services take place at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The services are identical (other than Children's Time at 10:30 a.m.), both with Holy Communion, and celebrate our Lord's triumph over death through resurrection on Easter Morn! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! An Easter Breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt are held between services at 9:15 a.m.
In December we offer beautiful, Advent, Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning services. Mid-Week Advent Worship takes place on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. Together we sing our faith through the ancient words of the Magnificat set to the music of Holden Evening Prayer by Marty Haugen. Children are invited to join the candlelit procession which begins each Wednesday worship service.
Christmas Eve Services are at 5:00 p.m. & 9:00 p.m. We gather with a spirit of reverance and awe to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, God incarnate, into our world. Vocal choirs, bell choirs, candlelit hymns and powerful words about Christ's presence with us combine to create a mysterious and magnificent celebration of Jesus' birth. Nursery is available at both services.
Christmas Morning worship is at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. On Christmas Day, a spirit of giddy jubilation infects our worship as we gather to sing the traditional carols of Christmas and proclaim that age-old story. In Bethlehem, a babe has been born! Nursery provided.
Holy Communion is celebrated at all Christmas services, and all are welcome.
