This passage calls us as people of faith to be witnesses throughout the world and to begin at home. Christ Lutheran Church has taken this calling to heart.
Local Opportunities to Serve
At Christ Lutheran Church we are grateful to be active in our community. In addition to our annual giving to national agencies such as ELCA and Lutheran World Relief, we support numerous, deserving groups. We also encourage members to become a part of these ministries using their own time and abilities.
- Meals on Wheels delivers hot meals each weekday from the church kitchen to elderly clients in the 78209 zip code. Volunteers drive routes one day a week between 11:00AM and Noon.
- Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM) is an ecumenical outreach to anyone in need of food or clothing. Gifts of food and clothing are collected at the church.
- San Antonio Metropolitan Ministry (SAMM) is an interfaith ministry providing help to the homeless.
- NESA Faith in Action is dedicated to assisting senior citizens remain in their homes as long as possible. Volunteers are needed to provide transportation, telephone reassurance, handyman services, and grocery shopping.
- Habitat for Humanity is a regular part of our ministry plan. Each year we build a Habitat home on our own or partner with several local clusters of congregations in our area for a build.
- Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Saturday evening at 8 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
- Agape Ministry exists to provide short-term emergency assistance to families and individuals living in North East San Antonio. We collect donations of pantry food, personal care items, clothing, and more.
- Other Ministry Partners include Lutheran Campus Ministry, Texas Lutheran University, St. Philips College Campus Ministry, Inner City Development, CrossTrails Ministry, Travis Park UM Corazon, Our House, San Antonio Community of Congregations, and Bexar County Detention Ministries.
Global Opportunities to Serve
Christ Lutheran Church supports mission work throughout the world by sending mission dollars to a number of worthy organizations. - Lutheran World Relief workers have partners in 35 countries dedicated to help people grow food, improve health, strengthen communities, end conflict, build livelihoods and recover from disasters.
- Lutheran Church of Costa Rica (ILCO) is the sister synod to the Southwestern Texas Synod. Our youth are in a partnership with the ILCO, and have participated in an immersion trip to Costa Rica.
